NEW YORK– After a brief hiatus from the FilAm music scene, the Happy Analogues are back with a new single. The single, “Bolakbol,” will be given away as a free download on May 30, 2008 on the band’s website–www.thehappyanalogues.com. The single will only be available for a month.
The song is from the band’s upcoming second album, entitled “School Tales’ due for a Fall 2008 launch.
School Tales is sort of a concept album. It is a collection of songs that follow a central theme: School life in the Philippines. “ The songs in the album are all about the significant experiences of being a Pinoy student,” said Ronnie Lao, the band’s bassist and manager. ”Our first single from the album, ‘Bolakbol,’ a song about truancy,” Lao added. The band’s guitarist and producer, Ted Reyes, penned the single. The single will also come with a B-Side: The full band version of the song “End Notes.” “End Notes’ originally appeared on the band’s debut album, Lilacs and Politics, as a hidden track right after the psychedelic number ‘Hodgepodge.” The hidden track version is notable for its subtle production values. The band employed minimal instrumentations particularly: an acoustic guitar, a piano and a moog synthesizer. The band version of the song is the usual instrumental set up of most Happy Analogues songs: two guitars, bass, and drums. Although the new single and its B-side will be available free as mp3 files, the band will also make limited hard copies of the release in compact disc and vinyl. The hard copy will be adorned by a collector’s edition album art with liner notes. Prices of the hard copies will be announced soon. The single will be released under Soulworks Records.
