NEW YORK– Rock in the Box Weekend, the biggest gathering of Filipino artists from all over North America begins this Friday, August 29 at Rehab NYC (25 Avenue B) at 8:00 PM. It is the start of a two-night festival celebrating the release of the second volume of the Filipino compilation album, Rock in the Box 2, which will be launched the following night on Saturday, August 30 at Crash Mansion (199 Bowery) also at 8:00 PM.
The Friday show at Rehab will feature new artists representing their home states: Wallows – New York John Violago – New York Earplug – Maryland Lucidblur – Illinois Indiagos – Indiana Jason Castillo – New York Kayumanggi Band – New York These artists will be joined by Rock in the Box 1 alumni: Blue Mellon Pop – New York Bleud – New Jersey Bagwis – Illinois Sodapop Suicide – New Jersey The Third Element – Maryland The Saturday show at Crash Mansion is the album launch of Rock in the Box 2. 12 of the 16 bands in the compilation album will play live on this night. Likewise, these bands are from all over North America: ACI9 – Illinois Then Again – New Jersey Circled Sin – Maryland PI – Washington, D.C. Rayzed – California Noizytoyz – Canada Qwadra – New York Trickbag – New Jersey Out of Luck – Canada Steel Polly – Maryland Diablo Royale – New York Binky Bianca – New Jersey These Rock in the Box 2 artists will also be joined by Rock in the Box 1 alumni: Alfa Garcia – New Jersey The Kuwagos – New Jersey The Happy Analogues – New Jersey Four Rock in the Box 2 artists could not make it to any of the nights: Super Kabote – California The Marys – Georgia Stella’s Notch – California Carpools – California The historic weekend will also see the launch of Poptimes Magazine Print– the printed version of the premiere Filipino-American music website, www.poptimesmagazine.com. The special limited number of magazines will be bundled with the new Rock in the Box 2 CD for $18.00. Likewise, a special Rock in the Box combo– Rock in the Box 1 and 2 is available for a discounted price of $20. The Rock in the Box 2 CD can also be bought without any bundles for only $12.00 This unprecedented two-night spectacle will be covered by the premiere Filipino music channel on US Cable and Satellite TV, MYX(Direct TV Channel 2067) The network sent a production team to cover the event and make a special segment for broadcast on their network.
